To increase sales companies have been trying to market a pink DVD player toward young women. It is no secret that society associates the color pink with femininity. Market research has shown that pink cameras, pink PDAs, and pink players sell better among girls and women.

Men typically control purchases for stereo equipment in the house. However, a pink DVD player is typically portable. This makes it perfect for young girls on the go who think of the player as a fashion accessory.

Pink DVD players can be decorated so that they appear as toys. For example, there is a progressive scan player that has a Hello Kitty theme. Such a player would make a great gift for a small child and would occupy her on a long car trip.
